Seattle’s First AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill is Here!
The AlterG treadmill helps speed recovery from surgery or injury and enables recreational and competitive athletes to train more effectively.
Using technology developed by NASA, this revolutionary rehabilitation equipment enables exercise without pain while patients are still recovering from injury or surgery. The AlterG works by reducing the impact of gravity on the lower extremities, so patients can regain natural gait and range of motion as they undergo rehabilitation or increase athletic conditioning.
How it Works
The AlterG air chamber inflates around your lower body and uses air pressure to support your body; the treadmill touchscreen allows precise unweighting at 1% increments so you can walk or run at anywhere between 20 and 100% of your body weight—you select where movement becomes pain-free. Because the AlterG uses air pressure for support—range of stride and your upper body are unrestricted, allowing for consistent, natural body movement.
We’re excited to offer this unique rehabilitation tool to our patients and referring physicians. We’re also making the AlterG treadmill available to recreational and competitive athletes who are not patients at Real Rehab. Simply call our office to reserve time on the AlterG, we’ll ask you a few basic questions and find a day and time to that works for you.
For Post-surgery or Injury
Becoming mobile as soon as possible is a priority for rehabilitation from most lower extremity surgeries and injuries. The AlterG provides precise, partial weight-bearing while promoting natural gait patterns and reducing the impact of running or walking. The AlterG can ease patients back to full weight-bearing following injuries or surgeries to the lower extremities. For patients recovering from injuries or surgery, the AlterG is ideal for
- Rehabilitation following injury or surgery of the hip, knee, ankle or foot
- Rehabilitation after total joint replacement
- Gait training in neurological patients
- Strengthening and conditioning in older patients
- Weight control and reduction

For Athletic Conditioning
Not only can the AlterG help injured athletes preserve fitness levels, the AlterG can also supplement training by enabling competitive and recreational athletes to increase training volume and speed without increasing the risk of stress-related injury. By reducing the impact of gravity, and thereby reducing the athlete’s effective weight, the AlterG allows athletes to train longer, run faster and enhance cardiovascular conditioning.
Visit the AlterG web site for additional information on using the AlterG for sports performance.
